Billings X-Games Qualifier Results

On December 15th, 2007 Octane Addictions hosted an ESPN sanctioned snowmobile freestyle qualifier for the 2008 Winter X-Games. The event took place at the Metra Raceway in Billings, Montana. A lot had to go into this event, there was about a months notice for it. New ramps had to be constructed, advertisement and marketing had to be lined up, sponsors attained, course designed…nothing that the staff and supporters of Octane Addictions couldn’t handle!

3 Super Kicker styled ramps were constructed just a week prior to the event. Octane Addictions would like to thank Beau, Josh, Terry, and the entire Makeeff clan for their dedication in helping with this event. Without their help, there would have been a lot of cold hours spent out doors working on ramps and a bundle of other tasks.

Octane Addictions had expected nearly 20 riders to attend this event. As with most competitions like this, a lot of situations occurred for some riders that didn’t allow them to attend. Some were injured practicing, some had budget issues, some just decided that this wasn’t the time in their career. Whatever the case, we had a rider list that consisted of recognized freestyle riders and new.

Nate Haag, Dane Ferguson, Joe Parsons, Sam Rogers, Paul Thacker, Levi LaVallee, Jeff Mullen, Tyler Nelson, Ted Culbertson, Jim Fejes, and Alex Gabbert all arrived to compete against each other for the 4 positions available in Winter-X Games 2008. Jim Fejes and Tyler Nelson both suffered injuries in practice and were not able to compete. Alex Gabbert and Jeff Mullen struggled with mechanical issues throughout the comp, Alex wasn’t able to compete and Jeff ended up borrowing a snowmobile.

Weather quickly became a factor in each of the rider’s runs. Wind was blowing in an extreme fashion and some of the riders had a difficult time adapting to the varying wind speeds. Dane Ferguson still was able to cut through the wind on his Ski-Doo and stick 9 backflips in his first run. Levi LaVallee (Pro Sno Cross racer of Hentges Racing) accomplished an amazing run that included his first back flip in a competition. Parsons, Rogers, and Haag each had unique style and execution of their stunts that lined them up in the top five with LaVallee and Ferguson. The battle came down to Rogers and Haag, old team mate’s turned into competitors had to go up against each other to make the top four. As it turns out, their runs were real close but Rogers stole it away.

The head to head competitions were quick and simple. Riders were already stoked with being in XGames and took their final run as a victory lap. Parsons showed everyone what a Frisby Air was, Ferguson threw down another couple back flips, Rogers displayed what an extended trick looks like, and Levi LaVallee performed as he always does; Professionally. Overall, the finishing line up was: 1st Levi LaVallee, 2nd Samuel Rogers, 3rd Dane Ferguson, 4th Joe Parsons, 5th Nate Haag. Polaris made a huge statement through their riders landing 4 of 5 positions in the top 5 of this event. The top 4 finishers will advance to Aspen’s 2008 Winter X-Games!

Go Fast Sports & Beverage Company provided live music, these guys busted out in the chilling cold and wind for the gathered crowd. Patricia Ryan performed the National Anthem magnificently with her beautiful voice. Altitude TV will be airing the event around January 15th, 2008. Bronze medalist Heath Frisby performed a quick little exhibition and spectators got to take part in an interview with the freestyle legend.

Thanks go out to Go Fast Sports & Beverage Company, Hi-Mountain Recreation, Sebastian Landry, Tony Andreas, Wild Bill, Auto Plaza, Econo Print, Signs Ect, Makeef Family & Friends, Beau & Josh, Metra Park and their hard workers, Pierce Containers, all who ran equipment and hauled snow for us, Graden, Olenik and all the other shovel crews, Joe Duncan and the ESPN crew, T&E Equipment, and all those who helped make this event happen!

Octane Addictions would like to thank everyone that attended this event and we hope to see you at one of our next shows!
